Human Energy Expenditure in High-Level Order Picking

Order picking is one of the most significant components warehouse management. More than 50% cost incurred in warehouses due to order process. Although this process has mostly been considered within framework economic objectives, recent years ergonomic perspective become increasingly visible. studies regarding objectives have focused on low-level systems, but human factor ignored high-level picking. In fill gap, study focuses a single block with special focus factor. For purpose, capacity-constrained mathematical model based batching and routing for minimization energy expenditure proposed. three-dimensional (3D) system, distances travel times between locations were first determined using Tchebychev formulas calculate locations. Then, matrices created calculation time item weight. These matrices, which three different randomly generated sample data sets, used solution optimum batches routes determined. compare results, First-come First-serve (FCFS) S-shaped routing, are simple common methods practice, applied problem sets it was observed that gave better results.
